When it comes to social media marketing, it’s important that you start by knowing who you are targeting and what content they want to see from you.
So, let’s say, you do know who you are targeting, and you know exactly what it is you want to say. Next is creating the post.
First thing to remember is, a big no no is putting up a wall of text. And the reason for that is, people skim their newsfeeds and if you want to grab their attention, a block of text isn’t going to cut it.
For a post to stop the skimmer, there are 3 key components
- Headline – Your Hook
- Value – The Body of text
- Call to action
Headline
Let’s talk about the headline and I’m going to ask you to think about how the newspapers have been doing it for years. Every headline is created to grab attention and pull us in to read more. And you need to think the same way when creating your post headline.
Here’s an example of 2 headlines.

The Secret to Building More Business
Which one grabs your attention more?
The likelihood is, it’s the second one. The first leaves no room for curiosity while the second one might have you pause scrolling, interest piqued enough that you stay and read the text.
Value – Body Text
Now the body text needs to offer the reader value. It needs to inform, entertain, or educate. If you are clear on who you are targeting, you’ll know what they need from you. Your body text will therefore show your expertise and understanding of the pain points of your target audience by answering the questions you know they have.
Call to Action
Once you’ve done the above, you then need to have a CTA or Call to Action. What do you want the reader to do?

- Tag a friend
